Board of Inquiry flyover decision would have wider implications - Cr

A Wellington City Council member says other councils should be worried if the decision on building a flyover near the Basin Reserve goes before a Board of Inquiry.

The Transport Agency has lodged an application with the Environmental Protection Agency and says the flyover should be considered a project of national significance.

In its decision, the EPA recommends the Environment Minister have a Board of Inquiry look at the case.

Cr Iona Pannett said Boards of Inquiry are a rubber-stamping process and have effectively been set up to fast-track major infrastructure projects.

She said the boards are yet to turn down a single application.
