Firefighters beat back Auckland scrub fire

Firefighters in north Auckland are dampening down hotspots after a large scrub fire on the Hibiscus Coast Highway.

Fire and Emergency said at its height earlier Friday afternoon, five fire trucks, a tanker and two support units were at the scene.

The flames have burned through an area of 200 by 30 metres of vegetation.

People have reported the smoke drifting across Orewa.
