Otago Polytechnic says the launch of a new Maori business major will give those working in Maori organisations the opportunity to fast-track their degree.
The major in Maori Organisational Leadership is part of a Bachelor of Applied Management being offered through 'Capable New Zealand' at Otago Polytechnic.
The unit works to value the prior learning of adults who can study via distance learning and avoid having to give up their jobs.
The developer of the major said those who had at least five years work experience in the sector would typically be able to complete the degree in 10 months instead of three years.
Richard Kerr-Bell said the new business major ensured the integrity and mana of Maori knowledge was retained.
Mr Kerr-Bell said recognising people's prior knowledge of Maori meant there was no compromising of the Maori language, business or leadership concepts and values.
