An explosive disposal team is due at a Dunedin house later on Wednesday following the discovery of what's believed to be an undetonated shell.
Officers were called to a house on Corstorphine Road shortly before 8am.
Police earlier said they had evacuated nearby properties as a precaution, but they now say no-one needs to go at this stage.
They said the shell was likely to have been under the house for a considerable amount of time.
The house was under guard while police wait for the explosive ordnance disposal team.
