A West Coast man has been charged with firearm offences after an alleged kidnapping yesterday.
The 29-year-old man was arrested near Lake Lyndon, near State Highway 73 between Canterbury and the West Coast yesterday afternoon.
Police were alerted when a Christchurch service station that said a customer was being forced to drive to the West Coast by a man with firearms.
The man has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and one charge of unlawful possession of ammunition.
Detective Sergeant Craig Johnson said police were continuing to support the driver, and have established that the driver and offender knew one other.
The man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today.
Police are continuing to investigate.
