Warner Bros says the latest Harry Potter film made $US104 million on its first day in worldwide release.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth film in the series. It opened in 20 countries on Wednesday.
The BBC reports it took $US58.2 million in the United States and Canada - a tally that included a record $US22.2 million from midnight screenings.
