The only road in to the popular tourist destination was severely damaged by heavy rain, flooding and slips early last month.

Each bus needs to have six or more seats and a permit to carry passengers.

The Milford Road Alliance says bus tickets are available from Te Anau and Knobs Flat.

Wider access into Milford Sound will be granted from Monday including more bus convoys each day and allowing the public to use the road overnight.

Vehicles with essential services will run as needed with the scheduled convoys.

An additional convoy will run at 8am for approved vehicles only.
