After moving a no-confidence motion in the chairperson and putting himself forward for the job, Dr Lance O'Sullivan now says he's now happy with the direction the trust board of Hato Petera College is heading in.

The Kaitaia GP is a children's health campaigner who was named New Zealander of the Year in 2014 for his work on rural health projects. He has two sons at the Māori Catholic boarding school on Auckland's North Shore.

He took the drastic action of moving no confidence in the chairperson earlier this month over concerns the school was failing to deal with bullying allegations. He did not have the numbers at the time to roll the current chair, but other changes have been made.

Dr O'Sullivan said the 12-person Whanau Hato Petera Trust, which manages the school's hostel, voted on seven new members on Sunday.

He said it was decided to retain the board's current chairperson and he was confident the new board would address issues facing the school.

Dr O'Sullivan did not want to comment on the bullying allegations

Police say they have received a report on an incident at the school and are looking at whether criminal offences were committed.

Hato Petera has a distinguished past, and counts artist Ralph Hotere and writer Ranginui Walker as old boys.

Last week Dr O'Sullivan said governance at the school was poor, the allegations were not being investigated properly and students were being let down.
