The Marshall Islands is seeking U.S. State Department help to avoid a mail delivery shutdown

Guam-based Asia Pacific Airlines terminated its mail sub-contract with Continental Airlines effective next week, and local officials are worried that without the APA¹s freight capacity, mail delivery will come to a standstill.

Government Chief Secretary Robert Muller has written to U.S. Ambassador Greta Morris for help to avoid what would be a halt to mail services to the Marshalls, the Federated States of Micronesia and Guam.

Muller said that a mail stoppage would be potentially devastating to the people, the private sector of the nation and to timely implementation of the compact.
