Police have released the name of a toddler and adult who died after a crash on State Highway 1 at Mangaweka, south of Taihape, late last year.

They were two-year-old Agambir Singh Dhanju, and 38-year-old Sumeet Sumeet, both from Auckland, police said in a statement

A van and a car were involved in the head-on crash, just after 1.30pm on 29 December, and two adults and another child were taken to hospital with critical injuries, police said earlier.

Investigations into the crash are continuing.

This year provisional figures show 13 people have died on the roads during the summer holiday period. The official tally started on 24 December and finished on 3 January.
