Quake off Solomon Islands

19:42 pm on 5 June 2013

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck off eastern Solomon Islands, but no tsunami warning has been issued.

The US Geological Survey says the quake hit the Santa Cruz Islands, south of Lata, where a tsunami left at least 10 people dead in February.

Geoscience Australia gave a higher preliminary measurement of 6.6-magnitude, but said it was unlikely to have caused a local tsunami.
