Severe fire danger in Sydney

10:37 am on 8 November 2013

Severe fire danger conditions are tipped for large parts of New South Wales on Friday and a total fire ban has been declared for the greater Sydney region.

AAP reports hot, dry and windy weather are forecast across the city by the Bureau of Meteorology, with a chance of thunderstorms later in the day.

A total fire ban is in place for Greater Sydney and a severe fire danger rating has been issued for the region. The RFS says the fire danger is rated "very high" in the Blue Mountains, Gosford and Wyong.

"No fires are to be lit in the open," RFS spokesman Brendan Doyle told Macquarie Radio.
