Social services are on site at an emergency housing facility in central Wellington today where a baby has died.
Emergency services were called to The Setup on Manners at 9.40am today.
A police spokesperson said there was "no indication of suspicious circumstances at this time".
The Ministry for Social Development confirmed The Setup, which formerly offered serviced apartments for short-term stays, was a supplier of emergency housing.
Regional commissioner Gagau Annadale-Stone said a contracted social service provider was providing "pastoral care and support".
"We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the whānau affected by this tragedy," Annadale-Stone said.
"We will be checking in on all our clients at The Setup on Manners today to ensure they are okay."
