The issue was discussed during a virtual meeting between the Fiji government and the European Union.

Fiji's Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told the meeting it's mandatory for people entering the country to undergo quarantine.

Saiyed-Khaiyum said once visitors had completed their 14-day quarantine and they returned a negative test result for the virus, they were free to move around the country.

He said Fiji being declared a Covid-19 country could also mean Europeans who visit would not need to undergo quarantine upon returning home.

Saiyed-Khaiyum said the move would make Fiji a lot more attractive for those who want to holiday and are willing to undergo quarantine in Fiji.

"So we made a request to the EU and we understand they will be considering that," he said.

"The UK has said British citizens returning from Fiji do not have to go into quarantine."

EU ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific, Sujiro Seam said a lot of Europeans would be attracted to Fiji as their holiday destination.
