Next month a new Pacific Regional Representative will be elected onto the Commonwealth Youth Council.

That person will help form a nine member executive aiming to advance the youth development agenda.

The three finalists are from Australia, Fiji and Tonga have all have spent years in youth-related work in their home countries.

One candidate, the founder of the Tonga Youth Council Elizabeth Kite, said there had never been a Tongan representative on the Commonwealth body.

She said the Pacific should be aware of the opportunity.

"It's really important for me to either win this position or have another Pacific Islander sit in this seat," Ms Kite said.

"It has to be a Pacific Islander especially because in 2020 with the re-election time, it will be open to the Pacific region for the chair position."
