In another case, the prosecution asked for prison terms of up to 15 months for a group of six suspects accused of throwing rocks at firefighters.

The case related two firefighters trying to control a rubbish fire in suburban Noumea last June.

The two were attacked by the suspects who used rocks and golf clubs to smash the windscreen of their vehicle and force their retreat.

Media reports said only two of the six accused were in court.
