Fiji's Ratu Kadavulevu School is on top of the world after winning the Sanix World Youth Rugby Tournament in Japan.

The Fiji schoolboys champs stunned New Zealand's Hastings Boys High School 35-5 in the final, having earlier beaten Framesby High School from South Africa in the quarter finals and Australia's St Augustine's College in the semis.

Flying Fijians head coach John McKee said Fijian schools rugby was in good health.

"We've seen a strong group coming through that school and they certainly dominated the schoolboys last year ," he said.

"That group that went to Japan won the Fiji Under 17s last year so that group has been together for a little while, so that's obviously to their advantage.

"We always hope that the teams can perform really really well and I think probably the scoreline may have been a little bit surprising.

"But we know the boys have been preparing for that one for quite a while...they've put in a really good off-season and it obviously reflected in the performance."

"I guess it's a bit of a learning curve for them because for a lot of those young boys it will be their first time overseas but it's good to see that they can go and take on some of the best teams in the world and do well," said McKee.

It was the first time a Fijian team has won the schoolboy competition.
