Ex-boxing champ shot dead in robbery

A former world boxing champion Vernon Forrest exchanged gunfire with robbery suspects before being shot to death at a service station in the United States.

Police in Atlanta police say between 20 and 24 shots were fired from two guns.

Investigators recovered Forrest's gun with one shell casing belonging to it,

They say Forrest was putting air in a tyre at the time of the robbery and was shot many times in the back.

The former IBF welterweight and two-time WBC junior middleweight champion was a member of the American team at the 1992 Olympics.
