Preliminary work approved at Parnell station

12:05 pm on 28 November 2011

Auckland Council has approved preliminary track work to enable a new train station to built in the suburb of Parnell.

It's agreed to allow the railway line to be lowered in an area bordering the Auckland Domain so that construction of a railway station can take place.

Auckland Transport says the work needs to be done now, to coincide with the electrification of the entire network.

Project director Nick Seymour hopes to obtain resource management consent in the coming weeks.

The station has been under consideration since 2002 but still needs to be designed and approved.

It would be built on an existing line that runs through the suburb.
