One person has died following a crash on State Highway 5, Whakarewarewa, south of Rotorua early Sunday morning.
The two-vehicle crash was reported to police just after 5am.
Police said they would like to speak to any members of the public who witnessed the crash.
Another person sustained serious injuries.
The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.
Police would like to speak with people who saw a silver Mazda Atenza travelling along State Highway 5 around 5am.
