Katich steers Australia to series safety

The Australian opening batsman Simon Katich was the main thorn in New Zealand's side as he compiled a patient century on day three of the second test in Hamilon to virtually take the match from within the Black Caps grasp.

The New South Wales left hander anchored Australia's second innings with 106 as they reached 333 for 4, giving them an overall lead of 300 runs with two days to play.

Katich shared a crucial 155-run partnership for the third wicket with Mike Hussey, who made 65.

34 year old Katich was scored 804 test runs this summer at an average of 67, and he's scored 291 runs in the two tests he3re at 97 runs per innings.
