Fire crews are working to damp down a blaze at an industrial estate near Hastings.
Fire and emergency says it was called to the Whakatu industrial estate about 11.30am this morning.
Shift manager Murray Dunbar said the fire broke out on the third floor of a building that was being demolished.
At its height, 13 trucks with crews from Napier, Hastings, Haumoana and Taradale brigades were working to put out the fire.
Dunbar could not yet say how bad the damage was.
St John says it treated one patient in a minor condition at the scene.
Earlier, Fire and Emergency asked residents to stay inside and keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke, but say there is no longer any danger from smoke inhalation.
Heavy rain has set in and no flames can be seen coming from the building.
