He appeared via videolink today in the Hastings District Court, where he was also given name suppression.

The man is charged with causing grievous bodily harm in relation to the baby's death on 8 October 2019 at a residential home in Porangahau.

Appearing before Judge Gordon Matenga, the man was bailed to a Waipawa address.

Police laid charges yesterday after a lengthy investigation.

Emergency services were called to the home where they found the baby girl unresponsive, and she was unable to be resuscitated.

The man will reappear in court next month.
