An opposition member of parliament in Fiji was questioned by the police on Friday before being released without charge.

A police spokesperson said the Sodelpa MP, Mosese Bulitavu, arrived at Suva police heaquarters in the morning with his lawyer.

The questioning was apparently in relation to comments made by Mr Bulitavu this week about Indo-Fijian people.

A hate speech complaint was laid by the director of the Human Rights Commission, Ashwin Raj.

Fiji Village reported that Mr Raj's complain was made as a private citizen.
