Solomon Islands to ban use of tinted windows in vehicles

10:19 am on 1 October 2003

The Solomon Islands is planning to introduce legislation banning the use of dark tinting on the windscreens and windows of all vehicles.

New legislation is being prepared to be forwarded to Cabinet for approval.

Director of Traffic Operations in Honiara, Philip Kaukui, indicated that police would act as soon as the legislation was approved.

While some countries limit the degree of tint on windows for safety,

the move to ban tinting altogether in the Solomon Islands is well suppported for other reasons.

Many people believe some married men use tinted windows on vehicles to hide their infidelities.
