A man has been arrested following two suspicious fires in Mount Maunganui - one in a building housing the police station as well as other businesses.
Police said the first fire, in the Hull Road building on Friday evening, caused some damage.
They said later that evening, a street pole holding a CCTV camera was also set alight, destroying both.
A police spokesperson said the arrest was made after a search of a Mount Maunganui property.
A firearm and ammunition were also seized there.
A 36-year-old man is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court today, charged with arson and unlawful possession of a firearm.
