The University of Auckland, which hosts Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga, says it's delighted to have another opportunity to apply for the final stage of funding for the Māori Research Centre of Excellence.

Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga was selected above two other applicants from Waikato and Massey Universities..

Last year, the Royal New Zealand Society decided to stop funding Ngā Pae which sparked an international petition to save it.

Auckland University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jane Harding said it was pleased to have another chance.

She said "jumping through hoops" to get funding was not unfamiliar to reseachers in New Zealand and admits that it was disappointed not be funded in the last round by the Royal New Zealand Society.

But Ms Harding said it was delighted to be given another chance and see the approval by the Maori CoRE committee to proceed to the final funding round as a vote of confidence in the national network that Nga Pae has been building to draw together Māori researchers around the country.

Ngā Pae's application focusses on research programme themes of Whai Rawa (Māori economy), Te Tai Ao (Environment) and Mauri Ora (Human Flourishing).
