A police prosecutor has appeared in court charged with using and possessing methamphetamine and using cannabis.
Brent Thomson appeared at the Waitakere District Court on Thursday.
He worked mostly in the Family Violence Court at the Auckland District Court and has been stood down, and will face an employment investigation.
The operations manager for the Prosecutions Service, Inspector Mike Johnson, says Mr Thomson was freed on bail and will appear again on 17 October.
Mr Thomson is the third police officer to recently appear in court on drugs charges.
In May, Henderson Constable Peter Pakau appeared in court facing 27 charges, including supplying and manufacturing methamphetamine and illegally using information from the police computer system.
A former Northland police officer was in August charged with drug-trafficking. Michael Blowers is facing charges of selling cannabis and supplying methamphetamine.
