A Ministry of Health spokesperson said they are following up with authorities in Malaysia to find out more.

Malaysian media are reporting that among the five imported cases in Malaysia yesterday, two were people returning from New Zealand. In July, a New Zealand traveller tested positive in Malaysia but the result turned out to be a false positive.

In a similar case in July, a person travelling from from New Zealand tested positive for Covid-19 in South Korea, but the New Zealand Ministry of Health said that South Korean authorities believed the person had contracted the disease during a lengthy transit at a Singapore airport.

In August two people who travelled from New Zealand - one to Japan and the other to Belgium - returned positive tests for the coronavirus. Both had also transited through Singapore.
