The woman was found with critical injuries at a May Road address, but died at short time later.

Police say it's too early to share any details of the incident.

St John said it was called to the address just after 7.30am.

A man has been arrested and is helping the police with their inquiries.

Detective senior sergeant Scott Armstrong fronted media at the police cordon shortly after 10am.

He spoke to information already released about the incident but wouldn't provide any further details.

Nearby residents say they heard a large bang - similar to a big firework - around the time the police were called to the scene.

A local contractor working on a job across the road said he arrived at work 15 minutes after the incident.

"I saw about four or five police cars up there and then I just walked up to have a look, from here I didn't see anything at all."

A police cordon is in place and three St John teams and two Fire and Emergency trucks are at the scene.
