Two wns for NZ junior surfers at World Champs

New Zealand surfers have started the World Junior Championships in Peru with two wins in their qualifying round heats and with six out of the seven going through.

Ben Poulter won his matchup in the Under 18 boys, scoring 12 out of a possible 20 points in clean, 1.5 to 2.0 metre waves.

Tane Wallis and Todd Doyle progressed too, Doyle winning his low-scoring heat with Wallis second.

Paul Moretti, Dune Kennings and Adam Grimson placed second in their under-16 heats but Elliot Paerata -Reid came third and was pushed in the repechage rounds.

The Under 18 girls division starts early tomorrow.

A record 276 surfers from 27 countries are competing at the event, which was held at Piha last year,
