There have been 10,470 new cases of Covid-19 in the community and a further 16 deaths with the virus reported today, the Ministry of Health says.
In today's statement, the ministry reported there were 773 people in hospital with the virus, up from 765 yesterday, with 14 people in ICU.
The seven-day rolling average of weekly hospitalisations has risen from 499 last week to 700 today. The average age of people in hospital with the coronavrius is 64.
All of the 16 deaths reported today happened in the past 11 days. The total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 is now 1776.
Today's deaths include one person in their 60s, one in their 70s, six in their 80s and eight aged over 90. Four were females and 12 were males.
Three were from the Auckland region, one was from Waikato, one was from Bay of Plenty, one was from Lakes, one was from MidCentral, two were from Whanganui, five were from the Wellington region, one was from South Canterbury, and one was from Southern.
The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 9994, compared to 8310 this time last week.
The ministry said the number of re-infections in community cases was 412, of which 130 were cases between 29 and 90 days of a previous infection. It said 333 of the latest cases had recently travelled overseas.
There were 11,382 new community cases of Covid-19 and a further 23 deaths with the virus reported yesterday.
There have now been 1,474,875 cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
