Masterton police are appealing for information after a woman was shot on in the town early yesterday morning.
Police said the 35-year-old was walking on Clyde Street when she was shot at 2.50pm.
The woman was driven to Masterton Hospital by a local resident where she underwent surgery. She is now in a stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Bill Van Woerkom said police had spoken to both the woman and residents in the area.
He said someone in the community must know who was responsible.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Masterton police or Crimestoppers.
Police said they believed it was an isolated incident and the community was not in danger.
