Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan has welcomed the announcement of a daily direct service between Paraparaumu - Christchurch.
The new service, operated by Air Nelson, an Air New Zealand subsidiary, will provide more than 36,000 direct seats per year between the two regions.
Ms Rowan said it will boost the region's economy and increase the area's appeal as a tourist destination and place to live.
She also said it is a 'use it or lose it' opportunity and people need to use the service to ensure it continues.
Flights will start in November.
Paraparaumu already has an established service to Nelson, Blenheim and Auckland.
