Police helicopter tracks stolen car before teens arrested

A group of teens have been arrested in West Auckland this morning after an alleged car theft on the other side of the city.

Police were called to reports of a vehicle being stolen on Scott Avenue in Māngere Bridge at 3.10am.

The vehicle travelled onto State Highway 20 and fled from police after failing to stop.

It was tracked by the police Eagle helicopter towards the suburb of Massey, before being spiked on Te Atatū Road, stopping on Royal View Road.

Police arrested five teenagers at the scene.

A 19-year-old woman will appear in Manukau District court this morning, and a 15-year-old boy will appear in Manukau Youth Court.

Three others, aged between 13 and 17, have been referred to Youth Aid.
