The jobs are there: Bennett

19:18 pm on 13 November 2012

The Social Development minister has told Parliament there are jobs going for those who are looking for work, even if the job market is tough.

Questiontime was dominated on Tuesday by the increase in the unemployment rate.

The Household Labour Force Survey released last week puts the unemployment rate at a 13-year high at 7.3%

Paula Bennett says no-one is saying jobs are freely available, but there are jobs if people actively look for them.

Mrs Bennett read out a list of companies advertising for workers to Parliament, saying they were examples of where there are jobs available.

Labour's social development spokesperson Jacinda Ardern says Mrs Bennett was implying people who are unemployed aren't looking hard enough for a job, and she says that is insulting.
