Ko drops in world rankings

Lydia Ko has dropped another spot to be number three in the latest world golf rankings.

Ko was number one for five months until last month when she missed the cut in the first major of the year, the Chevron Championship.

The 26-year-old finished tied for 42nd at the LPGA Tour's latest event in New Jersey at the weekend.

American Nelly Korda remains number one with Korean Jin Young Ko replacing the New Zealander at number two.

The Korean won the tournament at the weekend.

Ko won in Saudi Arabia in February, but since then her best results on the LPGA Tour was sixth.

Meanwhile inform New Zealand golfer Steven Alker is in the first group away on day one of the US PGA Championship in New York this week.

Alker is playing in the second major of the year after finishing as the top ranked player on the Champions Tour last season.

It is the first time he will play the PGA Championship, he has previously played the Open Championship in 2012 and the US Open in 2013.

His playing partners for the first two rounds are American's Shaun Micheel and Branden Shattuck.

The other New Zealander in the field, Ryan Fox, will play alongside American Tom Hoge and KH Lee of South Korea.

World number one Jon Rahm of Spain will play alongside Matt Fitzpatrick of England and Cameron Smith of Australia - the winners of the last three majors.
