Tenders are being called for the design of Christchurch's new central city sports centre.
Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee said proposals were being sought for the development of the Metro Sports Facility, one of the city's recovery projects.
Last month, Cabinet approved an unknown amount of additional funding to ensure the project goes ahead.
With the increased funding, the facility will include a 10-lane competition pool with seating for at least 1000 spectators, nine indoor sports courts and hot pools and hydroslides.
Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel said the centre's design needed to encourage as many people as possible to keep physically active.
Parts of the centre will be open by 2019.
