Police investigating the burglary of an Auckland gun shop are trying to identify a man who visited the store claiming to be a meter reader.
Ten shotguns, seven bolt-action rifles and eight semi-automatic shotguns were taken from Gun City in the suburb of Mount Roskill on 3 July.
Police say security at the store was not as robust as it could have been and whoever stole the weapons knew what they were looking for.
They say a man who claimed to be a meter reader visited the shop earlier the same day, but investigations show no one from the regional water company was assigned to visit.
