Former MP elected as ACT Party president

19:45 pm on 24 January 2013

Former ACT MP John Boscawen has been elected as the new party president.

He replaces Chris Simmons, who has held the position since 2010.

Mr Simmons was president during a tumultuous time for the party, including the rolling of Rodney Hide as leader by Don Brash and controversy involving current leader John Banks and electoral donations.

Mr Boscawen says his new task will be a challenging one, but believes ACT has an important role in Parliament.

He has been elected for a two-year term, starting on 22 February.
