Sport: PNG Hunters on high heading into Falcons clash

The Papua New Guinea Hunters head into their Queensland Cup rugby league clash with the Sunshine Coast Falcons with a renewed sense of confidence.

Last week the Hunters convincingly beat the MacKay Cutters away by 20 points.

Coach Michael Marum said the win was important after dropping their only match of the season so far to the Norths Devils two weeks earlier.

"I think we needed that win after a bad performance at home two weeks ago," Marum said.

"It's a good feeling again in camp," he said.

"I think the boys really dug deep last week, we trained really hard, prepared well for that game against the Cutters."

Marum said the team had prepared in the same manner this week.

"On Saturday hopefully the same result can come our way."

The Falcons enter the match on the Sunshine Coast fresh off a hard-fought 12-8 win over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

They too have some confidence, being the first team in 2016 to beat the Hunters at home in the playoffs.

Marum said that result is still on their minds.

"The only one thing we can do is go out there and play well as a team and the results will come.

"They had a good win against Wynnum Manly last week so they will be tough," he said.

"They have got one of our own boys in there, Justin [Olam, who plays centre for the Falcons], he will be playing hard as well so we just have to turn up and play our own game."

The PNG Hunters are currently second on the competition table with the Falcons lying in fourth.
