An agency that promotes Maori art internationally has had a major funding boost of nearly $2.4 million.

Creative New Zealand has allocated $19.5 million to 37 arts organisations, with Toi Maori Aotearoa getting $2,358,000.

Toi Maori Aotearoa has been granted $806,000 for next year, and further money for the following two years.

Toi Maori general manager Garry Nicholas says the funding will help further elevate Maori art internationally.

He says it can plan with much more confidence - particularly with major projects in the Pacific Rim, and others in Canada and the United States.
