Rough weather blocks CNMI cruise ship visit

17:23 pm on 15 March 2012

Rough seas have prevented passengers from disembarking from the cruise ship the Queen Mary II in Saipan.

The captain of the ship stopped passengers going ashore in Saipan's Smiling Cove Marina due to inclement weather and rough seas.

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce, which had organised a welcome ceremony to greet the passengers, said the decision was unfortunate.

In a statement, the Chamber says the visit had been a chance to put Saipan on the map for future international cruise ship visits.
