A former All Blacks captain has been called on to lead the charge in selecting the next New Zealand Rugby Board.

Graham Mourie will chair a seven-member panel of interested parties as NZ Rugby looks to overhaul its governance.

The panel encompasses representatives from grassroots right through to the professional level.

The panel has already met twice over the past ten days to express their vision for the board and outline the sought after credentials of its future members.

It's been a turbulent time for New Zealand Rugby's governance, with the players association at one point threatening to quit and form a new body to run the professional game.

However a compromise was reached between the Super Rugby franchises, New Zealand Māori Rugby Board, the Players Association, provincial unions and Tausoa Fa'atasi (Pasifika advisory group).

The new independent NZR Board is expected to be in place by the end of the year.

The members of the panel are:

  • Graham Mourie (Independent Chair)
  • Anne- Marie Jackson (NZ Māori Rugby Board)
  • Pauline-Jean Luyten (Tausoa Fa'atasi, Pasifika Advisory Group)
  • Kate Daly (Provincial Unions)
  • Corey Kennett (Provincial Unions)
  • Gerard Van Tilborg (Provincial Unions)
  • Garry Chronican (NZ Schools Rugby Union)
  • Rob Nichol (NZRPA)
  • Grant Jarrold (Super Rugby Clubs)
  • Andrew Golightly (NZ Rugby Foundation)
