The SPCA says there should be a complete ban on the sale of fireworks for personal use after a number of reported animal deaths and injuries on Guy Fawkes night.
Among the reported deaths was a dog in Manawatu that jumped through a closed window.
SPCA chief executive Robin Kippenberger says a complete ban in line with Australian policy is needed to ensure people don't stockpile fireworks and use them throughout the year.
She says reports to the SPCA indicate that people have continued to use fireworks every night since last Saturday.
