Divers warned to take care while catching scallops

The Underwater Association is urging divers to take extra care while catching scallops this summer.

It says divers need to be aware of new regulations regarding displaying dive flags, because people diving out in open bay areas run the risk of being run over by boats.

The association's communications manager, Peter Crabb, said catching scallops can provide hazards for people who have not been in the water for a while.

Mr Crabb said people often get into problems if their equipment has not been serviced, they dive without a buddy, or are out of shape.

He said divers should always slowly ascend from each dive and closely monitor their air supply.
