Onions New Zealand signed the agreement in Pukekohe on Friday. It was the fifth primary industry to join forces with the government to manage and respond to important biosecurity risks.

The onion industry's export value is worth around $100 million and is one of the country's largest fresh horticulture export crop.

It joins the other groups which have already signed a GIA, including the pork, kiwifruit, pipfruit and equine industries.
