A man has been arrested after a pizza delivery driver's boss was shot at following a dispute over paying for food in Hawke's Bay on Wednesday night.
Police said a man refused to pay for the food when it was delivered to an address on Te Aute Road, Pukahu, about 9.30pm.
Detective Senior Sergeant John McCarthy said the driver left the premises feeling intimidated.
The driver's boss then called police and went to the property to collect the payment herself, McCarthy said.
While waiting for police, a man fired two shots at the woman and her vehicle, he said.
A 37-year-old man was arrested and was expected to appear in the Hastings District Court on Thursday on charges of theft, unlawful possession of a firearm. and ammunition and drug-related charges.
A manager at Pizza Hut Hastings East did not want to comment, other than to say staff are doing well despite the circumstances.
In a statement, Restaurant Brands said the incident was "extremely distressing".
"We are relieved that those who were involved were not harmed. We are supporting our franchisees at this time. The police are currently investigating the incident."
