Former TOP staffer's tweet referred to police

13:15 pm on 3 October 2017

Police have been asked to investigate four social media posts made on election day, including two from former TOP communications director Sean Plunket.

The Electoral Commission passed on the breaches to the police following complaints it received.

The Electoral Act prohibits campaigning of any kind on election day, including on social media accounts.

In one incident, Mr Plunket tweeted: "hoping everyone remembers to put on a top before going out to vote, when it's cold, two tops."

The Commission did not name the other people or organisations that had breached the rules.
