The Desert Road has reopened between Rangipo and Waiouru after a fatal crash this morning.

One person died in the collision on State Highway 1 between a car and truck south of Turangi about 1.30am.
The road was closed while a heavy haulage crane removed the truck.
Motorists were being diverted through National Park.
